In early 2016, we launched the program called ‘Gift from Land: Local Farm-Culture Experience Course’, with three different Secondary Schools, including more than 60 participants. After the course, they will travel to and participate in the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, Japan in 2018, to assist in different artists’ creations.

During the course, we led students to learn maintenance of the organic farm, includes sowing, composting, watering, harvesting, also observing what our nature needs. Other diverse activities such as using real plant stencils to create artworks, collaborating in making environmental installations, producing natural enzyme cleaner, and cooking fresh local food. etc. In trying to let the participants re-think the possibility of a sustainable future can be, by experiencing a kind of natural lifestyle.

The mid-term event Learn from Land (2016) aimed to promote the above ideas and concepts to the public, it included a land art exhibition, outdoor market, eco-art lecture, screening, music shows, workshops and craftworks, public tours, etc.

Who

I undertook multiple duties in early teaching, production, and event organizing. Particularly, I worked as a curator, art tutor, coordinator, designer, and photographer for the short film (see trailer).

Other participants included the SOIL team, with more than 60 students and teachers from three different Secondary Schools, artists, co-organizer Ma Po Po Community Farm,  representative in Hong Kong (Sense Art Studio), funder (The C.C. Wu Cultural & Education Foundation Fund Scholarship), many professional helpers, the public who joined the event.
